Catalina Island Backpacking

On the boat heading to the island....no, the little piece of land in this photo is not Catalina. LOL
Taking a break...we decided to hike the Trans-Catalina trail to the campground - it was challenging, but had amazing views!

Going up? It doesn't seem like it, but some areas were pretty steep...the hard part was going down those steep parts!

Walking along the ridge.

Scott definitely had the heavier pack! LOL

Checking out bison tracks.

It was a long way to the campground!

Our friends Cady and Jim joined us for the 2nd day hike.

Scott showing off his muscles while Jim points out the deer.

Watching the bison play.

Hollywood brought 15 bison to the island in the 1930's to film a movie. They couldn't round them all up so they let them stay and roam. They became so overpopulated that they brought a bunch to South Dakota in 2002. We saw quite a few.

Stunning!
Somewhere in the distance, approximately 30 miles away, is stinky, smoggy LA.

Isthmus Cove

Heading home.

Halloween 2008

Rather than have a party this year, we decided to hang around and hand out candy until 8:30 or so and then hit up a cool little wine spot near our house. We dressed up as cheesy, 80's speedwalkers with matching sweatsuits...you really had to see us walk/waddle to get the whole costume.
Our friend Rick and his wife Kandi joined us later in the evening...Rick's a used car salesman...he's got a nice 87 Ford Chevy if you're interested. :)

Eli and Jen had a great costume and act!
We each had a flight of wine....looks like a lot, but it lasted us all night! Again.... a lot of wine.

Dawn's Triathlon

We stayed downtown the night before and cruised around Point Loma on the bikes. Love the harbor area.

My wonderfully supportive husband even got up at 5 a.m. with me to head over and get my transition area set up.

Getting 'marked' the day before! # 807 baby!! Then they went and put my age on my leg...uhhgg!

All smiles because we didn't know what we were in for yet!

Heading out for the swim - there were about 80 people in my 'wave'.

I was the 3rd orange cap out of the water in my wave - not bad!

I lost a lot of time and ground using a mountain bike instead of a road bike - but I still refuse to buy one of those skinny-wheeled things! ;)

The two greatest (and cutest) fans a gal could have!

Bringing it home....

Camping on the Coast

One of the most beautiful backdrops you can have!
Burgers & Beers
Checking out the morning surf.

Can't beat camping under the stars in the back of your truck listening to the ocean waves crash.

Wiensfest!

Grape Stomp...sooooo slimy! Scott and I won by filling the bottle first!
Love it!
